Differences over Transshipments

Country policies on transshipment differ. In Indonesia, the government gives serious attention to the issue of transshipment. It is suspected that this becomes a widespread practice due to the high number of foreign-owned vessels operated by Indonesian fishery companies.

A PATROL boat off the coast of Malaysia called the Pekan Maritime Ship (KM) spent several days in the South China Sea, tracking down ships suspected of being involved in transshipment alias illegally unloading fish from the catching vessel to a refrigerated collection boat, in early 2020. Such transshipments, in many parts of the world, are categorized as illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing (IUUF).
