Forest fires are breaking out again on forest concession land. The rules are there on paper, but no one seems to be paying much attention.

Flames are rising again over Kalimantan and Sumatra. As of Monday last week, satellite monitoring reported 57 ‘hotspots’ over the two regions, each spot representing an area of fire. The first hotspot recorded in the current bout of Indonesia’s regular smog problem was picked up two weeks ago. Now they have spread across seven provinces.

This time the largest number are in West Kalimantan, where 18 hotspots were recorded. Next
