It's 5am in the early hours of the day as Kondang, a 40-year-old resident of the unnamed village at the edge of the Kelian River goes into the water—not to take his morning bath, but to begin ngerebo, panning for gold from the riverbeds. As he begins moving his pan in a circular motion, Kelian hopes some little specks of gold will show up.
