DANIELLE Kreb, 52, founder and advisor of the Rare Aquatic Species of Indonesia (RASI) Conservation Foundation, was initially elated by the birth of a baby dolphin in the Pela River, Kota Bangun, Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan. However, her joy turned to sorrow on the early morning of July 12, when she received news of a dead Mahakam dolphin, or Irrawaddy dolphin, discovered in the Pela River, a tributary of the Mahakam River.
