THE theme of the Singapore Biennale (SB2011) was ‘Open House’ (as celebrated by many during Chinese New Year or at the end of the Ramadan fasting month). This theme comes with an ironic twist: Singapore is not exactly an open society. Can art open up and lay bare the contradictions of Singapore?
