ON three occasions throughout 2006, Health Minister Siti Fadilah Supari reduced the price of generic drugs. Unfortunately, it is precisely this policy that is causing a shortage of cheap drugs on the market. The poor, initially the target of the price reduction, have instead become victims as they are now forced to buy more expensive brand name drugs. What went wrong?
