THE veils of dust created by Mount Merapi during the last two weeks are a form of torture for Somo Tiyono, 86. Somo who is a resident of Boyolali has been forced to stay at the regional general hospital because he can barely breathe; the effect of this leaves his whole body trembling. The old man is suffering from acute respiratory infection after having breathed in volcanic dust covering his house in Gedangan village, Cepogo, Sunday a week ago.
