Hepatitis B inflicts one in three people worldwide. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that, to date, two billion people are suffering from the virus, some 350 million of whom have reached a chronic stage. "Every year, an estimated one million people die from hepatitis B," says Prof. H. M. Sjaifoellah Noer, an expert on liver disease at Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital in Central Jakarta.
