The Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Promotes Patimban Port

The Ministry of Transportation is holding a public expose for Patimban Port, which is one of the government's national strategic projects. The Ministry of Transportation and related stakeholders conveyed the profile, advantages, and superiority of Patimban Port, which is located in Subang, West Java, to business players.

The Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi hopes that this activity can provide understanding and convince stakeholders about Patimban Port. Especially, Patimban Port is ready to provide both national and international logistics services.

"Mr. President Joko Widodo has mandated us to prepare Patimban Port, as a strategic infrastructure to facilitate both national and international economic interactions," he said in the public expose entitled 'Patimban Port: The Modern Face of Ports in Indonesia' in Jakarta, Thursday, January 7, 2021.

He conveyed that this port would later be able to accommodate 7.5 million TEUs / year and an automotive terminal for 600,000 completely built up (CBU) vehicles per year. "With a water depth in the port channel that reaches 10 meters, it allows large ships weighing up to 35,000 DWT to dock there," said Budi.

"Patimban Port will be built until 2027, and we will try to speed up its completion because of its tremendous potential. Its existence can make Indonesia a world-reckoned exporter country," he said.

Budi explained that Patimban Port was designed through the concept of sustainable, green, smart and integrated international port. "That way, the synergy with Tanjung Priok Port can take place."

"Thus, Patimban is expected to become a world connecting port," he added.

Patimban Port was built through official development assistance (ODA) loan funding from the Japanese Government. In the future, this port will have a number of other advantages.

Some of them are support from Kertajati Airport, access to toll roads and railways, proximity to industrial areas in Karawang, Subang, Purwakarta, Majalengka and surrounding areas. In addition, there is a marine education area and a number of other facilities.

Furthermore, Budi said that the presence of Patimban Port and other infrastructure support would have a positive impact. Simultaneously, it can create millions of new job opportunities and opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Meanwhile, the Minister of Economic Affairs of The Embassy of Japan Tadayuki Miyashita also said that Patimban Port is very good for the development of logistics activities. "The reason is, it can reduce operational costs as well as congestion in Jakarta," he said. (*)
