Other than Yess, Bandung's home-grown music industry of the 1970s and 1980s reached its full splendor via labels like Monalisa, Apple and Hidayat Recording. Each was unique with its own niche market.

Among the row of shop-houses on Jalan Gardu Jati in Bandung, building No. 31 stands out. The structure, painted flaming red, houses a tailor shop called Avis Taylor. The owner, Tjio Pwie, said the space used to be occupied by a cassette store where one could order customized recordings. The store closed in 1988. When Tjio moved in, the building was already empty.
