Two Museums

Four months ago, Haryanto Adikoesoemo inaugurated the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara (MACAN) in Jakarta. The fine arts museum seems to be a magnet for the younger generation. Although entrance is not free, the place has become a weekend destination, where visitors can meet up with friends and take selfies with works of art from all over the world, for example American artist Jeff Koons’s Hulk installation. Businessman E.Z. Halim also founded the E.Z. Halim Art Museum (EZHM) in Bogor, West Java. The museum may not be as grand as MACAN, but its collection is quite significant because of its ‘specialized’ quality. Although the museum is not yet open to public, one can make an appointment to visit.

It has been four months since the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara (MACAN) was opened to public. During the four months, over 100,000 visitors have come to visit. On weekdays, the majority of visitors are professionals and millennials, while weekends seem to be dominated by families. "The public’s response has been amazing," said Fenessa Adikoesoemo, MACAN Foundation’s chair, in January.
