GAZA means "strength" in Canaanite, and "pearl" in Persian. The name certainly fits. Its strength comes from pure people-power. Gaza has also become a "pearl" in the struggle of the people of Palestine. The intifadah, hurling stones at Israeli troops, is indeed no match for Israeli tanks, yet this quality is present in the spirited resistance of the youth.
