Women’s Deaths in Childbirth on the Rise

The number of women who die giving birth has dramatically increased within the last two years in the Regency of Merauke, Papua. A total of 464 cases out of every 100,000 births was recorded. “The figure is far higher than the national figure of 232 cases,” said head of Merauke Health Department, Josef Rinta, last week.
