A Mixed Bag from Jakarta in Berlin

A week of performances presented by 140 artists from Indonesia brought a new color to Berlin. Not all of them represented the best of their art form. And not all of them presented memorable performances. Yet they were lively and the atmosphere was really that of a festival.

Tourists from all over the world have descended upon Penang. Based on Malaysia’s tourism statistics for 2010, the number of tourist arrivals was 5 million people. Out of this number the amount of foreign tourists was 3 million. How are the inhabitants of George Town able to preserve and revitalize their old buildings? Tempo journalist Suryani Ika Sari reports.

MONBIJOUPARK is an esplanade on the banks of the Spree River in the eastern part of Berlin. The skies were so clear with the sun shining brightly. The swimming pool was crowded with children playing while people walked about with open shirts. The benches and chairs of the cafe on the edge of the river were full of visitors who came with drinks in hand and smiling faces aglow.
