THE German scholar, born in 1965, is known for his unique attire: hat, black vest and red shirt. He took part in the movement to bring down the Berlin wall two decades ago. He has been visiting Indonesia regularly since 2002, involving himself with literary projects with a number of academic institutions in Indonesia. His collection of poems has been published in German and in Indonesian as Detik-detik Indonesia (Instances of Indonesia).
