The University of Surabaya has prepared eight alternative climbing routes up one of East Java's holiest mountains.

They are not the usual routes for climbing Mount Penanggungan. For Arief Yudo Kuntoro, though, the longer one treks the more comfortable one becomes. Arief's day job is as a bartender at a starred hotel in Surabaya. But for two years now he has helped University of Surabaya (Ubaya) researchers with data collection efforts at temple sites on the sacred mountain.
