THE Eastern Flood Canal project has become a real testing ground for the Mayor of North Jakarta, Muhammad Effendi Anas. For sure, since his appointment as Mayor in May 2003, much of his time has been devoted to clearing land for the construction of the flood canal in the eastern part of the city. Today, only 30 percent of the land needs to be cleared. Effendi Anas spoke about this to Tempo last Tuesday.
