Vessels dredging sand freely stir up the sea and beaches of Riau. Sand mining businessmen prosper while the fishermen have lost their means of income.

Dusk begins to fall as the waters near Moro Island, no longer blue, ripple and grow reddish, illuminated by the fast-setting sun. No large waves crash against the beach. The wind blows softly. This is the time, from August to November, when fishermen would normally haul in their biggest catches. But that was before.
