TWO weeks ago, the telecommunications industry in Indonesia was rocked by the sale of Singapore Technologies Telemedia’s (STT) 40.82 percent shares in PT Indosat to Qatar Telecom. This Qatar-based company had paid US$1.8 billion to purchase the shares.

STT is actually appealing to the Supreme Court with regard to the KPPU’s (Business Competition Supervisory Commission) accusation that its subsidiary, Temasek, had violated the law on monopoly
