IT could have been the hike in the price of oil and the subsequent plan to drastically cut the Indonesian Military (TNI) 2009 budget that elevated Rear Admiral Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno to the top of the Indonesian Navy leadership. On July 1, he was sworn in by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as Navy Chief of Staff, replacing Marshall Sumardjono, who retired. On October 1, the new Navy Chief of Staff received his fourth star.
