From behind the lens of his camera, Hendro Subroto has spent decades focusing his energies upon the thousands of details found within human existence. Yet he arranges his daily life in a most practical fashion. Next to the bathroom at his residence in the neighborhood of Tomang, West Jakarta, his clothes are hung on the wall according to type. It only takes a few minutes to snatch up a pair of pants or a jacket. There is no need to go through the closet, and he doesn't feel the need to use shoes when he jogs, mainly for reasons of health.

For that last reason, public buses often pass him by, thinking that he is a homeless man who cannot pay bus fare. In his book, The Journeys of a War Correspondent, this senior reporter only needed 57 photos to illustrate the 430-page book. We can just imagine how many rolls of film he has gone through in his career as a photographer.
