Suhardiman: "To save Golkar, Akbar Tandjung must be saved"

After staying out of the public eye for some time, the name Suhardiman has returned to the political arena. What prompted this? As it so happened the suggestion to form the Golkar Party Rescue Team made by Suhardiman, a founding figure of Golkar, was accepted by the Advisory Board. The idea set off some controversy but was finally accepted by the Party's Central Executive Board (DPP). The team was named the Team of Five. The board is led by Cosmas Batubara, with A.A. Baramuli, Pinantun Hutasoit, Muladi, and Suhardiman as members.

The position of the Team of Five is politically important because Golkar, whose official color is yellow, is currently facing a serious problem. Its source is the accusation of the diversion of Rp40 billion of Bulog non-budgetary funds, which should have been used for cash advances on troubled harvests, but which are suspected of being used for Golkar Party interests instead.
