In August 2016, Semen Indonesia, the country's largest cement firm, will begin mining the hills of Watuputih in the North Kendeng Mountain Range in Rembang, Central Java. After plans for a factory and quarry were dashed by fierce community backlash in nearby Pati, the company has obtained authorization for the excavation of limestone in Rembang, despite a similar opposition movement.
