Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini cleans the banks of Kalimas river in the East Java provincial capital city on March 15. Not only is she the first female to be elected as Surabaya mayor, Risma is in fact the first female to be directly elected through the regional chief elections held during the reformasi era. She is also the first Indonesian female to be repeatedly included in the list of world's best leaders. She has been lauded for her efforts in cleaning up Surabaya and developing open public spaces in the city. Risma will lead Surabaya for a second term, having won in the recent regional elections.
