THE Raflessia Grand Ballroom was very lively that night. One of the rooms at the Kartini Public Hall, a luxurious meeting center in the Jl. Gatot Subroto area of South Jakarta, was bathed in light. There was a party there. Jakarta celebrities, from 1980s era singers to present-day stars were in attendance. Several soap opera artists—the idols of housewives across the country—were included among the hundreds of invited guests.
