Advocates Under Two Roofs

AROUND 3,000 lawyers declared the establishment of the Indonesian Advocates Congress last week. Emerging as a split from the Association of Indonesian Advocates (Peradi), the organization claims to be the most legitimate vehicle for Indonesian advocates. Senior lawyer Adnan Buyung Nasution was appointed head of its advisory council. General Chair of Peradi, Otto Hasibuan, responded by immediately writing to all judicial institutions declaring that his organization is the legitimate one as acknowledged by the Supreme Court. A “battle” of advocates quickly followed.
