Judges in the Central Jakarta District Court found Tempo guilty in a defamation case. A report on alleged tax irregularities by PT Asian Agri, one of its subsidiary companies owned by Sukanto Tanoto, was deemed to have tarnished the reputation of the business tycoon. Tempo has asked the Judicial Commission to examine the judges that handed down the verdict.

THE meeting took place in the rooms of Judicial Commission Chairman Busyro Muqoddas on Thursday last week. The guests were Tempo magazine chief editor Toriq Hadad and Tempo Corporate Chief Editor Bambang Harymurti. Both had come to report the panel of judges that had handed down the verdict against Tempo two days earlier. Both were accompanied by attorneys from the Legal Aid Institute for the Press.
