Villages in Bali are applying custom law to various trials of cases, but doesn’t that contradict state laws?

An unusual trial was held in Selemadeg village, Tabanan, Bali. No judge, prosecutor nor attorneys were present at a hearing that took place on Saturday two weeks ago. There was only I Nyoman S, 50, a former village chief, along with two of his children, as the defendants. Dozens of villagers acted as public prosecutors as well as the presiding judge.
