Speeding Up Legal Autonomy in Bali

An unusual trial was held in Selemadeg village, Tabanan, Bali. No judge, prosecutor nor attorneys were present at a hearing that took place on Saturday two weeks ago. There was only I Nyoman S, 50, a former village chief, along with two of his children, as the defendants. Dozens of villagers acted as public prosecutors as well as the presiding judge.
