SITTING in the defendant’s seat, Hontjo Kurniawan, 59, the commissioner of PT Kurnia Jaya Wira Bhakti, bowed his head weakly after listening to the indictment against him. In last Monday’s court hearing, although he faced “only” three and a half years in jail on charges of bribing House of Representatives (DPR) members, he considered the indictment too harsh. “He’s simply a victim of a system,” said Djufri Taufik, Hontjo’s lawyer.
