ATM theft at several banks was committed using an old modus operandi. Not all machines are equipped with anti-skimming devices.

MADE Suweca of Denpasar, Bali, finally felt relieved. Bank Central Asia refunded his Rp8.6 million stolen via ATM (automated teller machine) last week. “The amount is not that big,” said the 32-year-old hotel employee, last Friday, “but that’s all I have to pay for school fees and milk for my children.”
Suweca is one of the 200 customers of BCA Bali whose money was stolen by a syndicate of ATM hackers. The total cash lost reached Rp4-5
