The trial of four DPR members who received bribes in the election of Bank Indonesia’s Senior Deputy Governor is over. Although they were all found guilty, the prosecution was unable to prove the existence of the source of the bribe money because of failure to present Nunun Nurbaetie in court. The key witness will soon become a suspect in an in absentia trial.

THE five judges had a hard time arguing over the length of the appropriate jail sentence for Hamka Yandhu, former member of House of Representatives (DPR) Finance Commission, who was charged with receiving bribes in the election of the Bank Indonesia Senior Deputy Governor on June 8, 2004. In fact, no unanimous agreement was reached even half an hour prior to the start of the court hearing.
