SOUTH Jakarta, Wednesday last week. Since 6am access to Jalan Ampera had been tightly guarded by police. Approaching the South Jakarta District Court the tense situation was palpable. Some 1,000 fully armed policemen equipped with anti-riot gear were standing by with rifles drawn. Two Barracuda vehicles and two water cannons were at the ready.
