Gayus Tambunan creates another surprise. Before visiting Bali, he apparently visited a number of other countries—China, Singapore, and Malaysia—using a false passport. It is suspected that his trips were part of efforts to safeguard the ill-gotten assets he had amassed from problem taxpayers.

THE limited cabinet meeting on Tuesday last week was marked by sheepish smiles and looks of surprise on a number of ministers’ faces. The reason? Photocopies of the identity page of a passport issued to one Sony Laksono that Minister of Justice and Human Rights Patrialis Akbar had passed around. The photocopy featured a chubby man sporting a wig, moustache and thick-rimmed spectacles.
