A civil court in The Hague found the Dutch government guilty of the slaughter of Rawagede, Karawang civilians in December 1947. This could open the door to pursuing similar past criminal acts.

THE elderly Kadun's eyes swept across the extensive park outside the Dutch Monarchy's Palace in The Hague. There, one day in mid-June, the park was full of young people, some of whom were sunbathing. They enjoyed their sunbathing, lying there spread out under the sun. What I remember about Rawagede, though, was all the corpses lying around, said the 74-year-old man, recounting his experiences in Holland when Tempo visited him there, last Wednesday.
