Prosecutors question Suwir Laut's Acquittal

The Central Jakarta District Court acquits defendant Suwir Laut in a tax evasion scandal involving the Asian Agri Group. Prosecutors still believe he is the link to others suspected of the same tax evasion case.

In his ten years as prosecutor, this was the first time Arief Indra faced a court ruling which he considered as strange. The ruling has to do with the acquittal of a defendant, Suwir Laut, in a Rp 1.259 trillion tax evasion case involving palm oil giant Asian Agri Group. "The ruling issued by the judges is unusual," the prosecutor told Tempo last Wednesday.
