Supreme Court Secretary Nurhadi claims he often resorts to using personal funds to cover work-related expenses. The source of his wealth and the motives for his contributions are under question.

The office is artfully decorated. It occupies the north-western corner of the second floor of the main building of the Supreme Court. A whole side of the room consists of a glass window looking out onto the road and the parking lot. The wall opposite is made of wood-panelling. "This used to be a store-room., a big mess," said Supreme Court Secretary Nurhadi on November 8.
