A Whiff Of Fraud

All last week, Ludiyanto busied himself answering questions from his overseas peers about Pierre Cardin's loss at the Supreme Court. "They inquired about how the famous brand could have been defeated in the lawsuit over the trademark utilization right," said the attorney of the Paris-based fashion company on Wednesday last week.

Pierre Cardin had sued Alexander Satryo Wibowo, an entrepreneur from Jakarta, for using its brand without approval. However, the Central Jakarta Commercial Court and the Supreme Court ruled against him. In its decision, the Supreme Court confirmed Pierre Cardin's patents legally belonged to Alexander.
