Karyadi’s small caf on Jl. Wijayakusuma in Government Housing Complex I, Bekasi, is closed. Inside the cafe, the shelves are empty. All that remains are a few bars of soap, some candy jars, and a pack of cards strewn on the floor.
Next to the caf, on a 90-square-meter plot of Bekasi government land, the family of Karta (now deceased) live in a leaking shack, moss covering a large part of the wall.
