Two weeks ago, throngs of visitors packed the Purbalingga District Court grounds in Central Java, curious to catch a glimpse of defendant Sumanto. Since being dubbed the "cannibal from Purbalingga", Sumanto has acquired almost celebrity status. Hundreds of visitors packed the courtroom, which usually only seats 35 people.
