ON September 19, 1984, Tanjung Priok erupted into commotion as military officers opened fire on a crowd of demonstrators, killing 23 civilians and wounding hundreds of others. This coming Monday, trial is due to start over the Tanjung Priok case at the National Human Rights Court. No doubt the echo of gunfire and screams of panic will ring in the ears of witnesses and defendants during reconstructions of the bloody event in court.
