ON November 10, 2003 Muslim cleric and leader of the Al-Mukmin Ngruki Islamic boarding school, Abu Bakar Baasyir, received dispensation from the Jakarta High Court. Chaired by Justice Hasan Basri Pase, the presiding judicial panel ruled that Baasyir was not guilty of leading, organizing or participating in subversive activities aimed at toppling the government. In doing so, the court overruled a verdict handed down by the Central Jakarta District
