I came to Indonesia on September 28 last year using a two-month socio-cultural visa for my Javanese language course at Gadjah Mada University (UGM). When I first went to the immigration office in Yogyakarta, an officer there explained to me that my best option was to convert my visa to a vista (one-year stay). The immigration law however stipulates that in order for me to achieve this, I must stay a minimum of four months in this country.
