I agree if the Ministry of Information is to be revived, as long as it doesn’t repeat the past mistake: becoming a terrifying institution to the press. On the other hand, it is overreacting if the highly suspicious press totally objects to it without willing to give it a chance to change.
If the Ministry of Information is to be revived, my suggestion is that it should stick to providing information. Generally, its task can be shortened as
