A LETTER arrived on the desk of the Magsaysay Award Committee in Manila, Philippines, in July 1995. Twenty-five prominent Indonesian literary figures and cultural observers signed the letter. Mochtar Lubisone of the signatories of the letterreturned the Magsaysay Award given to him as a sign of sorrow.
