Hanif Kureishi: "I've experienced a lot of racist treatment"

It is in a suburban area south of London that author and scriptwriter Hanif Kureishi finds expression for his imagination. The slummy existence of immigrants of Pakistani and Indian descent in London has often become a source of inspiration to Kureishi, a writer of Indian origin. "I've got an Indian father and an English mother," he says. Born in Kent, England, he studied philosophy in London.
