Pre-Silence Clashes

The solemn atmosphere of the Hindu Day of Silence in Bali was blemished. On Friday evening, when an ogoh-ogoh (demon effigy) procession was underway, rioting broke out. Several shops and parked motorcycles were stoned, causing damage and injuring four people. The conflict happened in Bualu subdistrict, Benua district, which only ceased after the Denpasar city police intervened.
