The public agrees with demolition of illegal villas in Puncak. But the collective mettle of the official apparatus is very much doubted.

When Jakarta Governor Sutiyoso ordered the pulling down of his villa in the Puncak resort area mid-February, it was widely suspected to be a cosmetic move. Though the 200-square-meter building with bamboo walls actually collapsed for the television cameras, citizens were soon suspicious about the presence of Sutiyosos other villas. Whats more, the road leading to the villa complex in Tugu Utara village, Cisarua, West Java, was closed.
