ONE thousand people gathered at the Hotel Indonesia roundabout last Thursday night in Jakarta. Some were bearing lit candles as prayers were said and calls for a stop to violence echoed through the crowd.

That was one of many gatherings held in Jakarta and other cities in Indonesia to condemn the terrorist bomb attacks in Bali earlier Saturday which killed more than 180 innocent people.
