THE stage was full. A mix of 10 foreigners in red shirts with 15 Indonesians dressed in black. All sat cross-legged. In their hands they held mallets or what in Sundanese language are called panakol. Together, they struck the metal keys and gongs of the Javanese gamelan. The composition, Kulu-kulu, opened in soft, slow and flowing tones. For five minutes, their rhythmic playing was performed for an audience of about 120 people at Komunitas Salih
