AFTER her performance, Margaret Leng Tan, 65, busily signed autographs for audience members who had bought her compact CD. The face of the Singapore-born musician appeared truly expressive. She is the first woman to have obtained a doctorate in musical art from the Juillard School of Music and the Arts at Lincoln Center in New York. Her meeting with avant garde composer John Cage had the added advantage of influencing her musical career.
